WHAT IS TUMMY TUCK (ABDOMINOPLASTY)?
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an operation in which loosening, sagging and cracks in the abdomen, as well as deformities in the belly button, are eliminated. While they are often seen in women after childbirth, the most common cause in men is abdominal looseness, which occurs as a result of rapid weight gain and loss. Tummy tuck surgery is often combined with liposuction in order to get a better form. All cracks under navel are removed with tummy tuck surgery.
WHO CAN UNDERGO THIS PROCEDURE?
Patients with sagging, looseness and cracks in the abdomen after childbirth or due to rapid weight loss are candidates for this operation.
BEFORE TUMMY TUCK (ABDOMINOPLASTY)
As with all operations, smokers should stop smoking at least 2 weeks in advance before abdominoplasty surgery. The patient should inform his/her doctor about the medications he/she uses. In particular, blood thinners may need to be discontinued or revised before surgery.
TYPES OF TUMMY TUCK (ABDOMINOPLASTY) SURGERY
There are two tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) operations;
Complete Abdominoplasty
An incision is made in a way that it remains below the level of underwear and bikini. This incision extends
from the pelvis on one side to the pelvis on the other. Abdominal skin is lifted through the abdominal wall
to the ribs. The rectus muscles in the abdominal wall are tightened. This process also contributes to the
formation of lumbar cavity. Then excess skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue are removed and abdominal skin is
stretched. A new location is created for the navel. Temporary silicone tubes (drains) are placed and the
abdomen is closed.
Mini Abdominoplasty
Only patients with excess and sagging under the belly button are more suitable for a mini tummy tuck (mini
abdominoplasty). An incision is made approximately in length that is performed in a cesarean section
surgery. The abdominal wall muscles under the navel are tightened. Abdominal skin is stretched by removing
excess skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue. Additional operations are not applied to the navel, as only the
part under the navel is intervened.
Liposuction can be added to both operations for better shaping.
