WHAT IS PROMINENT EAR AESTHETICS?
Prominent ear aesthetics is a plastic surgery performed when the angle of the auricle with the head is more than normal. Often, this is accompanied by the abnormal appearance of the ear cartilages. It is recommended to be done especially at young ages. Because it can be aimed to protect the child from social and psychological traumas that may be encountered at school age. If it is not done at this age, it can be done at later ages.
TO WHOM CAN IT BE PERFORMED?
- Patients who are not satisfied with their ear appearance are candidates for this operation.
- If possible, it is recommended to be done in the pre-school period (5-6 years) when ear development is
significantly completed. In this way,
it is aimed to protect the child from social and psychological traumas that may be encountered at school
age. Even if it is not done at this age,
it can be done at later ages.
BEFORE PROMINENT EAR AESTHETICS SURGERY
As with all surgeries, smokers should stop smoking at least 2 weeks before ear surgery. The patient should inform his/her physician about the drugs he/she uses. Especially blood thinners may need to be discontinued / changed. In addition, jewelry such as earrings and piercings must be removed before surgery. If there are ear holes, these holes can also be disinfected.
PROMINENT EAR AESTHETICS SURGERY
Prominent ear surgery can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. General anesthesia is mostly preferred for children. The surgery is performed through an incision made behind the ear. There is no trace in the front and side view of the ear. A few months after the operation, the scar behind the ear becomes rather ambigious. If the angle of the ear with the head is not too much but there is a problem with the ear folds, then hanging by string method can be used. There is no incision in this method. The absence of incisions directly shows the aesthetic success.
AFTER SURGERY
Patients are usually discharged on the same day after surgery. On the 2nd day, dressing is opened for control. It is recommended to use tennis bandage for 3 weeks in order to reduce the tension on the ear cartilages and protect the ears.
