Defy Time: A Young and Dynamic Look with Breast Lift!
WHAT IS BREAST LIFT?
Breast lift in Turkey is a surgery to recover the sagging of the breasts due to aging, rapid weight loss or birth and breastfeeding.
A breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to correct breast sagging and create a firmer, more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Factors such as aging, pregnancy and breastfeeding, rapid weight loss, or genetic predisposition can cause breasts to lose their volume and firmness. This procedure removes excess skin and tightens the surrounding tissues, giving the breasts a lifted and fuller appearance.
When is a Breast Lift Performed?
A breast lift is typically performed when noticeable sagging occurs. The most common reasons for undergoing this surgery include:
-
Sagging breasts due to loss of volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding,
-
Loss of elasticity in the breasts as a result of aging,
-
Breasts losing volume and firmness after significant weight loss,
-
Congenital or genetic asymmetry and sagging in the breasts.
TO WHOM CAN IT BE PERFORMED?
Ideal candidates for a breast lift usually meet the following criteria:
-
Individuals in good overall health without medical conditions that may pose a risk during surgery,
-
Those who have experienced breast volume loss and are bothered by sagging,
-
Individuals seeking a firmer, more youthful breast appearance,
-
Women who do not plan future pregnancies or mothers wishing to correct breast appearance after pregnancy and breastfeeding,
-
Individuals who have completed their breastfeeding period.
Breast Lift Techniques
The surgical technique used for a breast lift is determined based on the breast’s condition and the patient’s expectations. The most commonly used techniques include:
-
Periareolar Mastopexy (Donut Lift): Used for mild sagging; involves an incision around the areola to tighten the tissue.
-
Vertical (Lollipop) Mastopexy: Preferred for moderate sagging; involves an incision around the areola with a vertical line down to the breast crease.
-
Inverted T (Anchor) Mastopexy: Used for severe sagging; includes an incision around the areola, a vertical incision, and a horizontal incision along the breast fold for greater tissue correction.
In some cases, a breast lift procedure is combined with breast implants to restore volume and achieve a fuller look.
Before Breast Lift Surgery
As with all surgeries, patients are advised to stop smoking at least two weeks before the procedure. Patients should inform their surgeon about all medications they are using. In particular, blood thinners may need to be discontinued or adjusted prior to surgery. For patients with insufficient breast volume, silicone implants are often combined with the lift procedure to achieve the desired fullness.
Key points to consider before breast lift surgery:
-
Stop smoking at least two weeks before the surgery,
-
Discontinue blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin) under medical supervision,
-
Undergo general health check-ups and breast examinations,
-
Discuss surgical expectations thoroughly with the doctor.
PROCESS of the Breast Lift Surgery
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes around 2 to 3 hours. Like breast reduction or breast augmentation procedures, breast lift surgery leaves scars. The extent of these scars depends on the degree of sagging and may be around the areola, from the areola to the breast fold, or in an inverted T shape that extends along the breast crease. During the surgery, excess skin and tissue are removed, and the nipple is repositioned higher on the breast. Silicone implants may be placed if necessary.
-
The operation is generally performed under general anesthesia and lasts approximately 2-3 hours.
-
Excess skin and tissue are removed, and the nipples are repositioned to a higher location.
-
If needed, silicone implants are added to increase breast volume.
-
After the surgery is complete, the patient is awakened and usually kept under observation in the hospital for one night.
AFTER SURGERY
Patients are usually discharged the day after surgery. A supportive corset is worn immediately after the operation and this corset is used for 3-4 weeks. The patient can take a bath after the second day. From the days 3-4 on, the patient can return to work and social life with a corset. Swelling and bruises regress within 2 weeks. It is recommended to avoid heavy activities for 6 weeks.
