Erase the Traces of Time with Facelift, Regain Your Youth!
What is a Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Surgery?
Facelift is a surgical method that provides younger and more prominent facial features by correcting the sagging and wrinkles caused by aging. With aging, elasticity loss occurs in the facial skin; accordingly, sagging and contour irregularities occur especially in the jaw line and mid-face area. Aging of the face is not limited to this; bagging of the lower eyelids, sagging of the upper eyelids -sometimes limiting the field of view-, falling eyebrows, vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows and horizontal wrinkles in the forehead area are other signs of aging. With this surgery sagging especially in the face and neck area is removed, a more pronounced chin and face appearance is created. Excess sagging skin is removed, subcutaneous tissues are put together or hanged by lifting. Facelift can be combined with other surgical or non-surgical methods if necessary. (Botox, filling, fat injection etc.).
Who is a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
✔️ Individuals with Facial and Neck Sagging: Especially those over 40 years old, who experience skin sagging due to gravity.
✔️ Those with Loss of Jawline and Cheek Definition: Suitable for people with loose skin around the jawline and cheeks.
✔️ Individuals with Premature Aging Signs Due to Genetics: Ideal for those who lose skin elasticity early due to genetic factors.
✔️ People Seeking a Younger and Refreshed Appearance: Chosen by those who want to correct sagging that causes a tired, sad, or aged look.
Preoperative Process for Facelift Surgery
1️⃣ Consultation and Planning: The patient’s facial structure, skin quality, bone structure, and facial muscles are thoroughly evaluated. The surgeon discusses expectations and realistic outcomes.
2️⃣ Medical Evaluations and Preparation:
- Blood tests and necessary medical assessments are performed.
- Chronic conditions and medications are reviewed.
- Smoking and alcohol should be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery, as they negatively impact healing.
- Blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin) should be discontinued as advised by the doctor.
How is a Facelift Performed?
A facelift is usually performed under general anesthesia and can take 3 to 6 hours.
1️⃣ Incision Placement:
- In a traditional facelift, incisions start in front of the ears, extend along the hairline, and may continue behind the ears.
- In minimally invasive techniques, smaller incisions are used.
2️⃣ Tissue Tightening and Reshaping:
- The SMAS layer (a deep facial muscle and connective tissue layer) is tightened to ensure a natural and long-lasting youthful appearance.
- Excess skin is removed, and sagging tissues are lifted upwards.
3️⃣ Closure and Sutures:
- The skin is carefully repositioned to maintain a natural look.
- Dissolvable sutures are commonly used for a smooth healing process.
Postoperative Recovery Process
✔ First 24 Hours: Mild pain, swelling, and bruising are common but can be managed with doctor-prescribed medications. Cold compresses help reduce swelling.
✔ First 7 Days: Avoid excessive facial movements and sleep with your head elevated to prevent pressure on the face.
✔ Week 2: Swelling and bruising significantly decrease. Patients can resume daily activities but should avoid intense exercise.
✔ 1-3 Months: Final results begin to appear. The skin fully heals, and facial contours become more defined.
